This weekend we went camping with some of the other officers that Clint works with in Oregon. It was about a 2 hour drive- so not too far away. We haven't been tent camping for about 3 years, so we were all really excited to get out and GO! Of course, we have a little problem now trying to pack our 7 passenger mini-van with 7 people PLUS all the gear to go camping. We were able to tie down a bunch of stuff on the roof rack on the way over which saved us trying to fit everything in. It's bad enough driving ANY kind of distance with everyone in the car (can you hear it now... "How come ZACH always get's to sit up in the middle seat" "Allison is leaning on me", "I can't see the movie screen", "Rachel isn't scooting over" etc!) yeah- sometimes I wonder why we try! Anyway... we left on Friday and got over there and set up our campsite. The weather was beautiful- probably about 85 degrees outside. There were about 7 other families that went, and most of them were RV's. We felt like the poor relations!
While we were there, we played a LOT of card games and the kids played board games and went down to a very small creek that ran by the camp site. The kids all call it the "sewer" GROSS! It's actually just a culvert with a stream running through it. They saw plenty of harmless snakes and even a big frog that freaked out Allison. One day, Clint, Rachel and Zach went on a 7 mile hike with some of the others. This is what Clinton looked like when he got back.
We also found a nearby lake that we took the kids over to for fishing. Of course, we didn't catch anything! They have a great time just fishing, but it would be WAY funner if they could catch some fish! I'm pretty sure we just aren't using the right bait. We didn't have any worms, and were using lures and even marshmellows- but they just weren't interested.

Of course this LOOKS like we caught something... but it was only seaweed!
The worst part of the trip was how COLD the nights were! It got down to about 40 degrees which we weren't expecting. We had sleeping bags, but some of the people on the trip were lending us comforters and blankets to put over the top. My feet were FREEZING- and I could hardly sleep the first night- but the second night I made Clint zip our sleeping bags together so I could put my cold feet on him! Funny thing is he slept fine the first night, but not the next... when my feet were on him! Sorry honey!
We got the camping bug again though. We have another trip planned in August to a new location with our friends the Sheltons. They just moved 2 hours closer to us, so we can meet in the middle at a campsite and it will only be a 60-75 minute drive for both of us.

The tent reminds me of the one you guys left us. Cool fun. You guys were the only real 'campers' by the sound of things RVs ain't camping. Sleeping bags and freezing nights - that's what I call camping.

Looks so fun! I love camping....except the bugs....and the dirt.....and the no air conditioning. But everything else about it I love! Fun pictures!
Sorry for not answering your email right away. We were in Utah for a family reunion. (Just got home)
Our Car topper was about $400 but you can choose to pay less or more depending on the size and brand. If you want to try it out before you actually buy one let me know, we'd be glad to let you borrow it for one of your family vacations.
